Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them
in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.
And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
Matthew 28:19, 20
The Catholic Church has a special way of initiating adults into the Catholic faith. It is called the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). It is a period of Christian formation offered to those seeking to become Catholic. The RCIA may also be referred to as the Catechumenate, highlighting its roots in the Christian formation of the early Church. The Rite encompasses all aspects of the Christian life and includes an adaptation for children.
The RCIA takes place within the Holy Trinity parish community so you are able to share in the life of the Church expressed within our local faith community. It offers a way to grow in knowledge of Christ and the Catholic faith in company with others on a similar journey.
The RCIA is offered to those who have never been baptised but may also benefit those already baptised who desire to become Catholic.
The non-baptised who are suitably prepared are joyfully received into the Catholic Church by the reception of the three Sacraments of Initiation, namely Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist. This takes place at the Easter Vigil at Holy Trinity Parish.
Those already baptised, following a period of preparation, are welcomed into full communion of the Catholic Church by the reception of the Sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Eucharist. This may take place at a suitable time during the liturgical year during one of our weekend Masses.
Glossary of RCIA:
Catechumen - a non-baptised person preparing for Baptism and Initiation into the Catholic Church
Candidate - a baptised person preparing to enter into full communion of the Catholic Church
Sacrament- a visible sign of God’s grace, instituted by Christ and entrusted to the Church, to renew and reconcile us to God.
