This week's gospel asks us to love God and love thy neighbour. I suspect for most of us the first one is relatively easily achieved but from time to time the second commandment is more challenging when thy neighbour may not be "our cup of tea". This may not be deemed appropriate but I view it that regardless of what our neighbour does we must always rise above whatever they have done to upset us and still show respect and courtesy to thy neighbour. When thy neighbour is showing a lack of regard for others, the natural humanly temptation is to retreat to their standards and fight fire with fire but that makes us no better than the neighbour who frustrates us so at the very least I try for respect thy neighbour. Now none of this is easy and in the heat of the moment, it takes some real discipline but this is one of those 'stretches' that God asks of us so as to lead us to a better society.
